That was after his forced rustification for fighting with the Earl of Oxford. Great stuff. I promise I will read your book one day. I don't know much about the "next generation."

@Shelley--The fabric was very valuable in itself.Frugal Scholarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12696815672500452503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242926316765633205.post-5276645884020523672011-01-03T05:20:10.647-06:002011-01-03T05:20:10.647-06:00Never mind the cash, it's the lush fabric of t...Never mind the cash, it's the lush fabric of the purses I love most! Elizabeth lived so long that he was getting old by the time she died.

All those coins were made of silver or gold; there were no copper coins at the time, and paper money wasn't even so much as a glimmer in some bureaucrat's eye.

What's even more amazing is how much it cost to serve as a courtier to a Tudor or Stuart sovereign. Sidney spent phenomenal amounts of money on clothing, a mere aside to the cost of maintaining a house in London plus a large staff to run it, in addition to the country house at Penshurst. He died deep in debt, as most of them did. It doesn't seem to have concerned them overmuch, though.Funny about Moneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13188173788063351801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242926316765633205.post-16793301076438683722010-12-31T19:53:46.900-06:002010-12-31T19:53:46.900-06:00Funny, that's exactly what I got this year. :)...Funny, that's exactly what I got this year. :) Happy new year!I am the working poor.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12459981991615916464noreply@blogger.com
