What I Bought in Europe: Souvenirs

Two large tubes of paprika paste: one regular, one hot.

It's not that I'm so virtuous. We had small suitcases, were traveling between cities, took subways and buses. Not to mention that we have an overstuffed house as it is.

If there's anything we want--haven't thought of it yet--we'll have to go back. Now there's an incentive.

On my first trip to Europe, I bought a skirt from Biba, a fisherman's sweater, a Spode plate for my mother, a pair of platform shoes, and that's what I can remember 30plus years on. Wish I still had the Biba skirt.

Has your travel-related buying changed?

Yes, souvenirs / gadgets / what nots etc. are no longer very attractive. I do like to buy clothes, though often I'm on holiday in a warm place and have to choose carefully to get any use of something here in Britain. Paprika paste sounds interesting, I've not encountered it yet.

I like to buy accessories, easy to carry. If buy art, have it shipped. I don't buy knicknacks or food products, which I can easily get there. Your list from 30 years ago, I'd still buy today, except for more "sensible" shoes :)

@Shelley--Paprika paste is paprika in tubes: it is a great product.

@Duchesse--Haha on the shoes. I was so wobbly that I ended up gifting them to a very petite daughter of one of my mother;s friends. She could walk in them.
