Frugal in France: Best Food Memory

Not the cheese, not the butter.

No: prunes wrapped in prosciutto, secured with toothpick, and baked. We had this twice. Where has it been all my life?

Butter, as expected, is the runner up.

What is your best recent food memory?

A pilot friend( flying the Montreal-Paris route these days) just came back with a box of Laudree macarons for us, the big size. The ganache in these is beyond delicious.

He also brought three raw milk cheeses this week. I had an outstanding house-made pulled pork sandwich on homemade bun today at a tiny corner hangout called Le Pick-Up.

It's a guilty pleasure. Doris made us bacon (huge amounts - it's totally American and you can't get crispy salty bacon in the UK) fried eggs and waffles (with syrup) for breakfast...two days in a row. Disgusting, I know, but my toes curl with pleasure at the memory of it even as I'm embarrassed to type it...

Devils on horseback - my Mum used to make these as a starter when she had dinner parties.

Too many right now.

1. Laduree macarons from the London airport. I initially hated them and now I'm obsessed. I still prefer their pastries however

2. Natas. NATAS!!!!

3. Cherries in Hong Kong
