Backstory: We bought a house in New Orleans in Spring 2013, using a small inheritance from Mr FS's parents. The house is a rental, occupied by Frugal Son (in the tiny room with no closet) and two other fellows, one of whom does occasional work in the tv biz.
New Story: Roommate with occasional work in tv biz meets someone who does reality show featuring Amish carpenters. That someone's interest is piqued by three 20-something fellows with a big screened porch. They are thinking of building a bar on it.
Of course, I would prefer a bathroom remodel (the house needs it). Or how about....oh, zillions of things.
Frugal Son and his roomies seem a bit interested. They would hang out with the carpenters and that would be filmed too.
If an offer comes through, should Mr FS and I say OK if the fellows want to do it? Or are there a million unforeseen bad consequences I'm not thinking of?

Improvements are good for the value of the house, period. Once you make sure the necessary insurance is in place, I'd welcome them.
From direct experience: a crew filming in a house is hard on it, so they should also commit to any touch up painting and repair of damage. Often a per diem is given to reimburse for ordinary wear and tear.
A bar would be low on my priority list but if it is supposed to be the son's house then I guess it's his choice. Hopefully you might take before and after photos to share?

sounds like a fun opportunity, and may inspire the inhabitants to branch out and tackle some other areas,
the filming would be a nice memento for the future, maybe screened at son's future wedding reception?,
our neighborhood was filmed in movies, kind of a sweetly nostalgic experience to watch around Steven Seagal's Above the Law to see now gone parishioners in the church scene, the convent as it was before it was turned into condos...

I can think of nothing worse personally. But I value privacy very highly. Given the number of reality shows, many feel otherwise.

@Duchesse--the house is pretty scruffy, so not much can be damaged that wouldn't look like part of the ambience. For instance, part of the floor has fire damage--looks very cool--from when the house was...a CRACK HOUSE.
