Re-Introducing Funny About Money

OK: not quite the New Year, but time to clean up and do things with intention.

First up: let's re-introduce Funny About Money. Funny was my first favorite blogger. She writes about money and stress. She faced unexpected unemployment and is winning. She lives in a Housing Bubble state and is hanging on. She is, in truth, a role model.

My favorite recent post of hers concerns eldercare--when YOU are the elder. Funny finds some hope among a group of 80-somethings she met, all of whom have retained a large measure of independence and all of whom are living on their own. A dark glimmer of hope, indeed.

This is something we all need to think about.

If you can't quite face elder issues, you can always check out her apple turnovers.

And I must mention her super writing skills; through this blog, one certainly experiences the pleasure of the text.

Who are your favorite bloggers?

I would not have one favourite but you are among them, thank you!

My mother lived independently in her FL condo till 92, and only after a serious health issue made it clear to her that she had not been eating decently (she lied to us), did she move to assisted living. And contrary to Funny's take on the food there, she got fresh, healthy meals.

1700 more calories a day of good food bought her 7 more years of very good to good quality of life.

I am all for aging in place but it takes community support and good health care for all aged- and that means funding. Good luck with that given certain mid-term results.

@Duchesse-An honor! I think that concepts of retirement and family caring are changing--at least I hope so. Yeah-I'm hoping for changes in the safety net in the USA.

You are the only frugal/money blog on my sidebar but I do frequently read "Funny...". The post on elders is a bit too close to home for me. I'm thinking the next 10 years of my life will bring more changes than the past 20 have. I try to be prepared and have an upbeat outlook.

@Darla--Thanks so much! Yeah-so hard to think about the future, both for ourselves and the generations ahead and behind.

I enjoy Jane's blog - she's in Canada and takes lots of neat pictures she posts. It started Life Begins at Retirement then she changed it to Life Doesn't Begin at Retirement. She tracks different goals among other things. I found it about the same times as yours and just enjoy reading her posts!
